The headscarf (viel) is a controversial symbol. If you are working in the defence of women’s rights, you should know that by now. Some consider it a religious symbol; others see it a tool of patriarchal control and oppression; and yet others consider it a symbol of the march of political Islam. When it comes to wearing the headscarf (viel), some women wear it because they truly believe it to be part of their faith. Others, one the other hand, are forced to wear it, and these are many.
